Sponsor Your Parents and Grandparents

Sponsor Your Parents and Grandparents

Canadian Permanent Residents and Citizens can sponsor their parents and grandparents (related by blood or adoption) to become permanent residents of Canada. However, they are responsible to support their parents and grandparents financially in Canada and make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government. A Candian citizen or permanent resident cannot sponsor his/ her spouse’s parents and grandparents but can be a co-signer on his/ her in-law’s application.

To sponsor parents and grandparents, the first step is to fill out the interest to sponsor form. In 2020, the interest to sponsor form will be available from noon EDT on October 13, 2020 until noon EST on November 3, 2020.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents have to meet the eligibility and income requirements for the program. There will be a random selection and invitation of potential sponsors to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents. Invitations will be sent by email.

If you receive an invitation to apply, the sponsorship application needs to be submitted within 60 days. The exact deadline to submit the application will be mentioned on the invitation to apply. Incomplete applications will be returned without processing. However, for 2020, if the potential sponsor does not get his/ her 2020 Notice of Assessment until after he/ she applies, the application will be accepted if the potential sponsor submits his/ her Notice of Assessments for the tax years 2018 and 2019, and submit the Notice of Assessment for 2020 as soon as its available. The invitation cannot be deferred. If you need any help to sponsor your parents and grandparents, MAPLEROADS IMMIGRATION INC. is here to guide you through the entire process.
